What is Motor Excess Protection?
The Important Bits
When getting quotes for your Motor Car Insurance, choosing a higher voluntary excess will help to bring down the cost of your car insurance premiums because the insurer won't have to pay out so much in the event of a claim. On the flipside, this means that you'll be the one coughing up the extra cost if you have to make a claim.
Excess Protection insurance works alongside your normal motor car insurance policy. If you have to make a claim against your motor car policy, then you can claim on our Motor Excess Protection policy to recover the excess you have had to pay out. Motor Excess Protection can be particularly useful for young drivers, as increasing the excess can bring the premiums down by hundreds of pounds. You can now also include cover if you hire a car in the United Kingdom, and Worldwide.
With our Motor Excess Protection policy, you can choose a claim limit of £150, £250, £500, £750, £1000 and £2000.
Our prices start from just £19 per year.
You choose the claim limit to suit you. For example a policy with a limit of £1000 could allow one claim of £1000, or four claims of £250, you decide.
A Word of Warning
You must be aware that increasing the excess too much could cause you issues with small claims.
For example, if you increase your excess to £2000 and then you have a small bump, let's say it costs £1000 to repair. In this instance, you can't claim on your motor policy because it's less than £2000 and this means you can't claim your excess back from your excess protection policy. This means that you would have to stand the cost of the claim. Therefore we recommend that you don't increase your excess by too much. Ideally £500 -£1000 is what we would suggest is a sensible amount.
We also offer Multi Vehicle Family Excess Protection, if you want one policy to cover up to 3 vehicles
Any user of the vehicle must be covered by motor insurance which is in force throughout the duration of the motor excess policy.
All claims must be reported to us as soon as reasonably possible, and in any case no later than 30 days after the date the excess is paid under the motor insurance policy.
Claims must occur within the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, including transit by sea, rail or air directly between two of these places.
You can use our Excess Protect policy for cars, vans and motorbikes for residents of the UK.
This is similar to Excess Protect, but will cover up to 5 vehicles belonging to the Home Owner and Family Members who normally reside with them.
This can be a very cost effective way of having one policy that can reduce the premiums on all Car Insurance Policies.
