Our travel insurance policies include cover for coronavirus including cancellation due to falling ill with coronavirus and being unable to travel or being required to self-isolate (subject to a medical certificate or an official test result) as long as you are not travelling against the advice of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) or any other equivalent government body in another country:
- Examples of What is Covered
- You fall ill with COVID-19 (or another Pandemic illness) abroad and need medical treatment.
Covered as standard - You fall will with COVID-19 (or other Pandemic illness) at home and cannot travel.
Covered as standard - You have to self-isolate at home due to being a close contact of someone who has confirmed COVID-19 (Yourself or household member) and cannot travel.
Covered as standard - You have been denied boarding at the airport due to detected symptoms of COVID-19 (or another Pandemic illness).
Covered as standard - You are made redundant, cannot cover the cost of your holiday and have to cancel the trip .
Covered as standard - You are due to stay with family, one or more of whom has to self-isolate due to COVID-19 (or another Pandemic illness). You need to cancel your trip as you no longer have anywhere to stay.
Covered as standard - While you are travelling restrictions are imposed asking people to return to their country of residence due to COVID-19 (or another Pandemic illness).
Covered as standard - Accommodation provider closes due to outbreak of COVID-19 (or another Pandemic illness).
Covered as standard - An airline or travel provider ceases to trade without being able to meet their obligations regarding travel arrangements and you are unable to claim money back through any other source e.g. ATOL/ABTA
Covered as standard - Cancellation cover is for the perils listed in the “What is Covered” section and if you cancel for other reasons you may not be covered. We will only refund costs for which you are not entitled a refund from your travel provider or another source such as ATOL or ABTA.
- Examples of What is Not Covered
- Current or future FCDO or government restrictions on travel due to COVID-19 (or another Pandemic illness).
Not Covered - Local or national lockdown (at home or at your destination).
Not Covered - You book your trip whilst in lockdown and need to cancel because restrictions still apply when you are due to travel (lockdown, tiers, etc).
Not Covered - Entry restrictions apply to your destination at the time of booking your trip and you are unable to travel as the restrictions are still in place at your departure date.
Not Covered - An airline or other travel provider postpones or cancels travel arrangements but will only offer a rebooking or credit and not a cash refund. You must contact your airline or other travel provider to request a change in refund option if you are unhappy with the option provided.
Not Covered - You are concerned about travelling to your destination due to COVID-19 cases (or another Pandemic illness) and you choose not to travel and cancel your trip.
Not Covered - An event which has already begun, or circumstances already known to you that could reasonably be expected to give rise to a claim.
Not Covered - The examples provided above do not form a complete list of covers and or exclusions in relation to COVID-19 Coronavirus, please refer to the Policy Wording for more information.
